Strawberry Singh’s Zodiac Meme

for Strawberry Singh: Zodiac Meme (I'm blogging it!)

Hello! Today I’m finally posting my answers to Strawberry Singh’s Zodiac Meme!

What is your birthday and/or Zodiac sign? – I’m a July Leo!

Do you believe in or follow astrology? –

Yes and No. What most people refer to as Astrology is just sun sign horoscopes, which are very simplistic and only address where the Sun was at the moment of the person’s birth. I believe that people are much more rich and complex, having a whole universe inside them. The reason we take interest in reading a novel or cry at a movie is because every person contains within their psyche all of human character, potentiality and existence, a testament to our unfathomably rich minds. We find meaning in this world of chaos by unconscious processes of streamlining and reducing massive amounts of information down into symbols and words and ideas. Astrology makes sense to how our brains work, because this is a language of symbols and ideas that we can read, by looking at a natal chart and then talking about human traits and experiences. In the end, we are all guilty of reducing people to a few words or a stereotype, no matter how thoughtful or enlightened we pretend to be. I choose to “believe” in Astrology, or rather to embrace that system of thought because it appeals to me aesthetically, being a beautiful system of symbolism that comes from an ancient view of the world that is very romantic and historical. There are reasons why some of it seems true at times, such as when you meet an arrogant Leo, a stubborn Taurus, a shy, neat Virgo, or a superficial socializing Gemini. Truly we all have those characteristics, yet at times we learn a person’s sun sign and we see “aha! That explains THAT!” Astrology is used in this way, as a means to relate to other people, essentially. The true power is in Astrology’s worth as a predictor of human events. As a form of divination, I’m skeptical but open minded.

Do you feel your sign’s attributes reflect who you are? –

There are some things about me that are very leonine. I value positivity, warmth, boldness, and filling my mind with high things. I’m outspoken, opinionated, dramatic, broad minded and value loyalty. When I’m angry, I can become very loud and overwhelming, but I fight fair and I have principles, and I always let things go and I don’t tend to sulk or hold a grudge. There are other things about my personality that seem too cautious and fearful for me to be a pure Leo type. Those closest to me would get to know me deeper, and see that I worry about the small things and I doubt myself and question myself a lot. If you look at my whole chart, you would see a lot of water signs, and a little air. Very little earth, as I recall.

Have you ever been to a psychic or astrologer either in RL or in SL (are there any in SL?)

Yes. One time I paid a psychic to learn what would occur in my life and she told me I would marry a Japanese doctor. It hasn’t happened yet! She did touch on something though as I love Asian culture in general. But then again, who doesn’t? Asia is bad ass from coast to coast, and all the smaller land masses existing around the edges. yo!

Do you read your horoscope daily and try to follow any advice, recommendations or warnings it may have for you that day?

There was a time when I would go straight to the horoscope in the magazines, but I always found them stupid. They never have anything very good to say. The L.A. Weekly used to have a good horoscope but I haven’t read it in years.

Do you have very strong feelings about astrology, either negative or positive?

I think Astrology is beautiful and people should learn more about it, to be honest. It relates to the ancient world and the roots of Astronomy. It increases your repertoire of imagery and symbolism which can be useful for the imagination and art. It makes a fun way to relate to people, as long as you don’t stereotype them too much. I wish people would not say that they hate a particular sign or have bad luck with a particular sign. There’s no reason to become an Astrological bigot. Ultimately I feel that Astrology and other forms of divination can be healthy for the soul, enhancing creativity as long as it does not devolve into bigotry and judging people unnecessarily.

As you can tell from what I wrote, I used to study Astrology and other forms of divination extensively to the point I considered opening my own practice and earn some income. I did read Tarot cards at parties and would make a couple hundred from it. It was fun, but I find it difficult to do because I would start to touch on things that were actually occurring in people’s lives and then would listen attentively as they discussed their personal problems. I have never minded to be an ear for people, but I often would feel drained after doing parties.

I highly recommend for anyone to try some divination techniques as it can be very relaxing and enjoyable. A fun method (without as much of a learning curve as Astrology or Tarot) is reading tea leaves. It will help you get in touch with your imagination more, and what may be on your mind. Plus, you get to drink tea which is yummy and can be good for you.
